One of my favorite parts about living in Southie is living SO close to the water.
This past Friday I was working from home and my roommate had the day off. Since it was the first real spring day we’ve had in Boston we decided to spend my lunch break grabbing a bite to eat at the Barking Crab and taking in the Boston Harbor views.
Open year-round, the menu has exactly what you would expect from a clam shack – fresh seafood served grilled, baked or fried.
The dining room has communal picnic tables and a full bar. The casual, laid-back atmosphere makes it perfect for lunch on a sunny day or a place to grab dinner and drinks with a group before heading into town.
To start we ordered a “Stuffie” aka a stuffed quahog with chorizo. It was so tasty and not overwhelmed by too many breadcrumbs so you can’t taste the clam.
I’m ready to blow right past spring and go straight to summer and nothing says summer to me like fried clams. In celebration of this first beautiful Boston day I chose the Fried Whole Belly Clam Roll. Again, the clams were not overwhelmed by breading so the taste really comes through.
My roommate chose the “Naked” Lobster Roll with drawn butter and not mayo like typical lobster rolls. Both dishes were served with french fries, tartar sauce and a side of coleslaw.
It was a nice break on a sunny warm day to sit by the water and enjoy some great seafood. The restaurant was packed with people on their lunch break and Boston tourists giving it a really fun and energetic vibe.
I am looking forward to many more visits to the Barking Crab this spring and summer!
